Using the Database Checker
Once you have installed the Thermo‑Calc and are familiar with the TDB database file concept you can start working with the file to ensure it does not contain errors that prevent it from working with Thermo‑Calc.
Example of Working with the Database Checker
The following shows a couple of the features available when using an unencrypted TDB database file included with Thermo‑Calc Console Mode example tcex11 - Oxidation of Cu2S with an H2O/O2 Gas Mixture.
Open a TDB file. This example uses tcex11.TDB
, which is the user-defined database referred to from the Thermo‑Calc macro file tcex11.TCM
.
- In Thermo‑Calc, from the menu select Tools→Database Checker.
-
In the Thermo‑Calc Database Checker window, click the File
button and navigate to a directory with TDB files or a file with a
.TDB
extension. If two databases are selected at the same time, these can be tested for compatibility i.e., whether the databases can be appended. The tool generates error messages for database entities e.g., phases, that are not compatible but this does not necessarily mean that the databases cannot be appended, only that the erroneous phases cannot be appended and must be rejected from the system.
- Click Select directory or file. With the file loaded, click Check syntax of database. Choose how to show the information: Show summaries only, Show errors, Show errors and warnings, or Show all messages. The Database Checker lists the information in the window.
-
Click Save messages as needed to save a
.txt
file and use this to help improve your database.
