Search

• Always check your spelling.
• To search for a specific phrase or word, enclose it in quotation marks ("). For example, enter "Property Model" to only return results for that string. When you search without the quotes, i.e. Property Model, then this searches for both the words Property and Model. Use this search by itself for best results (i.e. do not combine with Boolean operators).
• Do not enter a full question. Instead, it is better to enter a few key words.
• Use Boolean operators AND, OR, and ( ) in combination with search terms to increase or decrease the number of search results.
  • Type AND between two or more terms.
  • Type OR between two or more terms.
  • Use parentheses ( ) to combine Boolean phrases and search terms. Note that terms enclosed in the parentheses are not highlighted in the topic results.
• Enter part of a word or any string (including numbers) to include results matching those characters. You need to input at least 5 letters. For example, search for results containing precip, and topics related to precipitation are returned. But searching for pre (three letters) or prec (four letters) does not return any results.
• Try similar keywords or combinations.

The asterisk (*) wildcard is not available with this search engine.

The best results are generally the simplest. If you are searching for information about diffusion, Scheil, and the Additive Manufacturing Module, entering the words in italics is usually sufficient.

In this example, the search for "Property Model" has 169 results and Property Model has 352 results.

For best results when combining with Boolean operators, try adding quotes around all phrases or words you are looking for. For example, search for "Diffusion" AND "DICTRA".

Once you conduct a search for a particular word or phrase, the word or text string is highlighted when you open the topic.

Once the topic is open, you can click the Remove Highlight button to remove these highlighted search results.

This is not a toggle on and off button. Once you click to remove the highlights you need to do the search again to re-highlight the text.

Highlighting Exceptions

This does not include words that are the result of a search with the use of brackets i.e. text found using the Boolean operator ( ) is not highlighted, or if you use alternative symbols instead of words such as +, &, |, or ^. In these cases only the first term is highlighted. For example, if you search for Property + Diffusion only Property is highlighted in the topic.

• AND Use to narrow the search and retrieve only the topics that contain all of the words it separates. Type AND between two or more terms.
• OR Use to search for two or more words. This broadens the search results by retrieving topics that contain any of the words it separates. Type OR between two or more terms.
• Use parentheses ( ) to combine Boolean phrases and search terms. Type parentheses ( ) around the combined terms. i.e. To search for topics containing additive and either the term diffusion or DICTRA, search for additive and (diffusion or DICTRA). Note that highlighting does not work when this is used.
